I have quite a few fond memories from my youth. One of those memories involved me playing in the school marching band. Specifically the drumline. It was fun. We always had a blast playing and honing our skills as drummers. But it also left me with several life lessons. For instance hard work, discipline, focus, drive and teamwork to name but a few. I worked hard to get to the level I needed to be at to perform. Hot summers sweating on a field. Cold brisk days marching all over creation for hometown parades. Concerts and contests. I ate, slept and breathed drumline.
So now I’m much older and have kids of my own. Naturally I want to let them experience what I was able to enjoy when I was their age. But sadly I can’t. Not that there is not a public school marching band right down the road. The problem is that we home school our children. And other than private lessons there is not an avenue to explore for us. Well that’s changing now. After a little push from the superintendent of homeschool group and the support of their music department we are moving forward towards the goal of creating a home school Drumline / Percussion Ensemble. And while the focus is on students in the home school environment, no child that wants to participate will be turned away.
So what’s the goal? Easy! We have fun learning how to play drums with the goal of playing at football games, parades, competitions along with concerts, recitals and other events. I think these youth deserve the same opportunities as other kids. So here lies the path. Now to move on down the road towards that goal.

Great program. Has great potential. Can’t wait to see these kids perform.
